Scramble Hike on Breakneck Ridge

Trail & hike up Breakneck Ridge in NY

Up for a challenge? Not sure what a scramble hike is?  Well, it’s somewhere between hiking and rock climbing.  It doesn’t require any special skills or equipment but does require physical stamina and the use of your hands to ascend the steeper parts of the trail.

This adventure will take us to Breakneck Ridge in Hudson Highlands State Park adjacent to the Hudson River.  The trail system consists of rugged, rocky and steep trails that offer wide, stunning views of the Hudson River, Palisades Park, the Shawangunks and the Catskills mountains in the distance.  Portions of the trail require scrambling and some steep ascents/descents, but the payoff is well worth the effort as there are a multitude of impressive vistas along the way.

The Hudson Highlands State Park's most well known trail, the Breakneck Ridge trail was rated by Newsweek as one of the top 10 day hikes in America. The trail rises 1,250 feet in only a ¾ mile stretch – can you imagine the views from far above the Hudson River?  It’s a one of kind, unparalleled, place of scenic beauty.  We will hike for about 5-6 hours and cover approximately 6-7 miles on mostly rugged and rocky hiking trails.  We will have plenty of stops along the way to enjoy the views and catch our breath.  Trip includes all transportation costs, licensed guide, park fees, continental breakfast and gourmet picnic lunch.
